Overview

Structural and fire safety has been brought into sharp focus in recent years, particularly following the collapse of Champlain Towers in Miami in 2021 and the London Grenfell fire tragedy in 2017.

CROSS (Collaborative Reporting for Safer Structures) is the confidential system that shares lessons learned from voluntarily submitted reports regarding incidents, near-misses and occurrences during a structure’s design, construction, operation, and ultimate demolition. The system, originally for structural safety reporting, has been expanded to cover fire safety, following a recommendation by Dame Judith Hackitt in her post-Grenfell review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety.

The panel will explore CROSS's origins, expansion and future, and it will discuss example safety reports.
