Remedial works had to be carried out after it was found that steelwork splices on site did not match calculations which were retrospectively provided by a contractor.

Accidental partial demolition of a beam
During a site visit, the permanent works design engineer noticed that hydro-demolition of the end of a floor supporting beam had taken place out of sequence. This introduced a pattern of bending moments and shear forces that were not considered in the original design.

Contractor notches steel transfer beam
A transfer beam with 50mm thick flanges supporting a four-storey building was notched, without approval from the design engineer, to accommodate suspended ceiling fixings.
