Control of temporary works excavation
Poor, high-water content excavated material, slipped into a 15-20m deep borrow pit. The material had slipped to the bottom of the pit partially burying excavation, crushing and screening equipment. If this slip had occurred during working hours, the impact could have been very serious.

Incorrectly fixed sheets blow off parapet
This report concerns aluminium coping sheets that blew off the parapet of a block of flats under construction. The reporter says a fierce wind blew off several sheets which fell to the ground about 9m below. A building and a car were damaged but thankfully no one was hurt, although the potential for personal injury or death was significant.

The reporter has noted that stainless steel and carbon steel may be fixed together in wall cavities, which are damp environments, and that corrosion of dissimilar metals in contact may occur.
