CROSS-UK Expert Panels
Expert Panels are at the heart of what we do. The Members are all volunteers.
What do the Expert Panels do?
Expert Panels comment on reports we receive. They use their experience to help you understand what can be learned from the reports. Where possible, they aim to identify the underlying causes of safety issues and make reference to other publications that those reading the report can access and use.
Designated People at CROSS-UK review each report submitted and decide which Expert Panel Members to send the reports to for comment. All reports are anonymised by the Designated People before being sent to the Members. The Members do not have access to the reporter’s personal information or the original information submitted as part of their report.
The anonymisation of reports ensures that the focus is on sharing lessons learned so that similar situations can be avoided, and not on attributing blame.
The Expert Panels have a number of other roles, including maintaining a continuing review of matters affecting safety in the built environment and helping to write other safety information for CROSS-UK.
Who sits on our Expert Panels?
CROSS-UK has two Expert Panels, one for fire safety and one for structural safety.
Our Expert Panels are comprised of leading experts in their respective professions. They come from a wide variety of sectors. Becoming a Member of one of our Expert Panels is a highly regarded honour.
All Members are selected for their personal attributes rather than representing an organisation or group. When joining an Expert Panel, Members make a commitment to act in an honest and transparent manner that is in the best interests of CROSS-UK.
CROSS-UK Fire Safety Expert Panel
This is the initial CROSS-UK Fire Safety Expert Panel. It will be expanded over time as required.
